Default Violence in the vicinity of Aurora High Schools- Annoying statements by APD Chief?

There have been two instances of shootings on or near Aurora High Schools- six students were injured in a shooting Monday at Nome Park, near Central High School, and three students wounded today in the Hinkley High School parking lot.

Maybe I am an odd bird, but does the following tweet from APD Vanessa Williams annoy you?

My feelings regarding the shooting at @HinkleyHS today: "I'm angry! People know what happened here today. These kids have guns, they got them from somewhere. Parents need to start checking their kids phones, rooms and pay attention to who they are hanging around with.

So now any person under 18 who has access to firearms is some sort of a threat? How about focusing on worthless parents and their POS wannabe gangbanger kids?

The other thing I noticed are many of the cars in the student parking lot- how do high school kids drive late model crew cab trucks and full-size SUVs?

My opinion: Vanessa is a squishy lefty who really has no business filling that position. Almost every presser with her causes face palm.

Map for a potential gang shooting.

If I was an emporer, I would post some fedbois posted at Gateway next.

small note. I did not know a Range view was a aurora public school district.

Not at all. She is spot on. Parents need to know what their children are up to, and correct them when they veer towards criminality.

The often cited problem is households that lack parental guidance often foster young men that seek gangs as family.

Williams is correct in her statement but doesn't go far enough.

^^^Agree. For most parents on this forum where your kids probably have firearm smarts and a healthy respect for them, this is likely not an issue. You also know what firearms you have in your home and what access you allow your kids to have. As for gangbangers, there is a good probability that their parents don’t pay attention to what their kids are up to.

Those parts I don't disagree with, just the gun comments.

As a teen, I had access to any weapon in our household at anytime- handguns, rifles, shotguns. I was usually armed after school and on the weekends when on our property or in NF/BLM areas.

I remember bristling at the stupid "kids and guns" diarrhea that spewed from the mouths of Webb/Schroder/Roemer in early 90's "Summer of Violence" episodes.

    Maybe I am too sensitive.

Thing is, anyone that those comments are directed towards is going to wholly not give a shit in the first place.

So in applied truth, the comment is an oxymoron. If they said "Any time we have a 'banger hit us up, we finna low-key bulldoze their 'rents home nowhaimean?" "Keep an eye on your crotch goblins and we'll give you a $200 certificate" might mildly accomplish getting the targeted audience to listen.

Political comments directed only towards parents that don't give a shit, expecting them to give a shit, is pragmatically a huge face palm.

ETA: I should say, I don't actually think of the phrases as suggestions. Only pointing out that shitty parents only care about: a) risk to themselves b) money for themselves.

As a long time resident of A-Town, I may shed some insight. However, these are all personal anecdotes, so as usual, what do I know? I'm just a cook.

Central and Hinkley have always had the reputation of "bad" schools. There were gang fights between them when I was a kid in the 80's.

The "bad part of town" was always Five Points. Then it was Aurora, north of Colfax, west of I-225. Then it was 6th on the east side. Alameda, Mississippi...

I went to Gateway and it was getting bad then. I can relate personal tales and cite numerous anecdotes of white kids getting jumped and beaten or extorted by black kids.

I was involved in a gang fight between white and black kids. It didn't amount to much more than a lot of yelling and a couple guys fighting, but still scary when, what we thought were men showed up on their side. I was a skinny, 15 year old white boy.

I know a guy that may have been involved in administration at RangeView. He may have quit because of the gang problems. He may have cited Asian vs. Black. This was around 15 years ago, so obviously, things may have changed.

I am concerned about this city.

I hope the administration takes a strong stance about crime. Otherwise Aurora will continue to be a joke, regardless of being the 3rd largest city in Colorado.

I think you are being too sensitive.

You weren't an asshole when you were a kid. You likely had some sort of moral guidance.

The kids that are shooting at each other did not or do not have that. They have no parents, friends, clergy or school to teach morality.

Instead, these young men turn to other other misguided young men to teach them how to act.
