Car jacking with multiple attackers in Cherry Creek

As to rule #1 : Their cars are probably of late enough model that the doors automatically unlock when shifted into park.

On most vehicles lock options are programmable thorough some obtuse combination of key operations combined with some other switch.

Upon receipt of my new [then] 2007 Ridgeline, I immediately programmed the locks to lock when the car is put in gear and NEVER unlock except by explicit operation.

Anecdotal evidence seems to show groups like this will scatter once a counter-ambush starts and shots are fired. They might squeeze off a shot or two, but they'll run. I doubt they're disciplined enough or trained well enough to stay in the fight. Video after video of incidents like this on YouTube and elsewhere almost always shows them hauling ass once the good guy starts to shoot back. A few might not but I think the odds are in favor of a victim (or bystander) who puts up an aggressive defense with a gun.

ETA: Having said all that, 6 to 1 are difficult odds at best.
