Machine Gunner
Yup... that P-89 was just fucked up 8-ways to sunday and for a $200 gun I wasn't putting any money in to it, much less, being that it was my first pistol, I really didn't know that about $150 and a good gun smith and the thing would have run like a raped ape. But out of the gate, it sucked balls bad enough to jade my opinion of any Ruger semi-auto.
I actually detested Glocks for many many years, mind you I'm not the worlds greatest pistol shot past about 20m. But one day a buddy made me run about 100 rounds through his G17, for some reason it clicked, the stars aligned, angels sang from the rafters and everything seems to come together. Grip angle, grip, trigger and sight alignment was more than natural, I just didn't have to fight the gun or myself to pull all of the basics together. The only other gun that ever came close was my Walther P99...wait for it... in .40
Gave up on .40 when I realized that controlling the recoil and getting back on target effectively just didn't compare to either .45 or 9mm for me. With my recently found affinity for Glocks I've just decided that I'll run Glocks in 9 and 45 and call it a day. Same grip angle, same sight alignment and natural feel across all 4 versions I've got. The only other gun I would even consider in the range of my Glocks for absolute reliability, yes out of the box, they work, would be the M&P line. S&W specifically targeted the Glock market and did a damn good job of it. Yeah there are other options, but if you want a dead reliable gun without having to spend extra money on it to make it do what it should out of the box, then as far as I am concerned and from my experience (not overly broad) then either of those two are your go-to options.
I've had SIG's, Taurus, Beretta, Ruger, Walther and a few others, Glock just works best for me. And you are so very right... run what works for you, practice, practice, practice. In the end all that really matters is that you can put the rounds where they need to be on your given target. Same goes for caliber. I can kill you just as dead with a .22 as I can with .50 .. putting the round in the right place every time is the only absolute requirement.
Still want to see the longer term results from the SR line... they've got potential, but like a lot of things, it's a "prove it" mind set from my perspective. Lets talk more after 5K-10K rounds
