Thumbs up The World's Largest Army...

The World's Largest Army. American Hunters?

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's great. There were over 600,000 hunters. Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world -- more men under arms than Iran ; more than France and Germany combined -- deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay. But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan 's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. America will forever be safe from foreign invasion of troops with that kind of home-grown firepower.

Hunting - it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security!

I have always felt this way. We send our men and women overseas to fight on their turf for good reason, we don't need that shit on our soil. But if the worst case ever came down to it, who ever decides to send foot shoilders here will be going home with one hell of an ass whooping no questions asked. There are a rediculious number of armed citizens, and sooo many more would come out of the wood work if shit ever did hit the fan>

    Nice numbers!
    Thanks for the sobering perspective.
Now if we were really free to practice our 2nd amendment, all those folks would have an automatic weapon, case of grenades, and maybe some sort of RPG device in their closet. Hypothetical- Then we might be able to (God forbid) go toe-to-toe with our government if it were to (cough) become tyrannical. To make an academic point, The reason we have our 2nd amendment is to correct tyrannical regimes. Citizens should be able to keep pace with its governments small arms.
    Just sayin'

I like the article but of all the children, seniors, and disabled who hunt I'd be surprised if 1/4 of them would be of much use in a war.

I don't remember the exact quote (and I'm too lazy to look it up right now) but Yamamoto said basically the reason he'd never consider invasion of the mainland U.S. was because there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

I think that's exactly what he said.
