I prefer to cry once and get the higher end stuff unless I know there's a product just as good at a cheaper price. For me at least, how long it will last and maintenance is more important than how cheap. There are cheaper alternatives to what I have above, but not better.
I heard that the dehydrators will run great on the cheap solar panels that Harbor Freight has, and an inexpensive power inverter. What's the amp draw on your unit? I'm assuming yours has the heater/blower combo?
