    Default Dog as home protection.

If your dog attacks a home burglar and he pulls out a knife with intention of stabbing your dog, is there any legal actions you can take?

Someone breaking into my house with a knife is a threat whether he is going after my dog or not. As my CCW instructor told me and many others probably teach the same; STOP. THE. THREAT.

Under Colorado's "Make My Day Law" once he's broken into your house and you have reason to believe he will commit any other crime (stabbing your dog would count as another crime) you can use lethal force.

    Winner!
This is a correct interpretation of the law to the best of my knowledge and as my attorney relayed it as well.

18-1-704.5. Use of deadly physical force against an intruder.

"Notwithstanding the provisions of section 18-1-704, any occupant of a dwelling is justified in using any degree of physical force, including deadly physical force, against another person when that other person has made an unlawful entry into the dwelling, and when the occupant has a reasonable belief that such other person has committed a crime in the dwelling in addition to the uninvited entry, or is committing or intends to commit a crime against a person or property in addition to the uninvited entry, and when the occupant reasonably believes that such other person might use any physical force, no matter how slight, against any occupant. Breaks into your house? Shoot da sumbitch before he gets a chance to hurt your dog, or anyone else!
