    Default Finally decided it's time...

to get my concealed handgun permit.

I know how to safely handle, carry, and shoot my weapons. I will need a class that focuses on the rules. regulations, and laws of concealed carry more than anything.

Also, any recommendations on a good carry piece are welcomed. I am thinking maybe a Karh CW 45 or the Springfield XDS when it becomes available. I'm not wanting to start a caliber debate here. Just looking for some real world opinions on what makes a good carry gun and why. Thin, light-weight, and reliable are tops on my list.

    Thanks.

SA EMP 40 in the summer and SA Champ or full size 1911 in .45 all other times, none are "lightweight" but all are thin and all are identical in controls & function.

I carry my SIG P250 subcompact more than anything else. It comes in anything from 9mm to .45 ACP Choose what suits you.

I like my mini glock. The short grip is easy for me to conceal. It all depends on your body style and where you decided to conceal....appendix or strong side etc. I have 5 or six different holster for the same gun. So many guns and holsters, but so little money. Good luck!

Im taking my class this weekend. I would be interested in hearing what everyone has to say. I may have to get me an M&P shield just for carry.

The saying goes...The longer you carry, the bigger your carry gets. If you are looking at .45, I would suggest a Glock 30 or M&P45c. I am 5'6" and 140lbs and my EDC is a Glock 29sf(same size as the 30) in a Liberty Holster IWB with a Smith 340pd B.U.G. in the pocket. I have no problem concealing both in just jeans and a T-shirt. IMO the ultra thin/super small pistols aren't very practical or comfortable to shoot. I can shoot 10mm loads pushing a 165gr Gold Dot to ~1350 fps with less felt recoil than the Kahr PM9 that it replaced shooting a 124gr +p load.

    YMMV.

there are a ton of instructors on here.

based on the guns you were thinking about you could also check out the kimber solo and the sig p938. those are similar in size both are 9mm's

I probably don't know them so I was hoping one of them would chime in or someone might share their experience with some of their courses.

    Thanks
