$168 for a 28 year old bike that's worth about a grand, after the $100 penalty because I chose not to plate it for a couple of years. It's a dual sport that rarely if ever sees the street, but I wanted current plates so that I could connect trails with public roads without getting a ticket.

What they do with credit cards is illegal, AND against the credit card contract. I told them so, and turned them in before. They don't care. I wish someone would sue them over it.

I had friends that lived both here and So Cal and they said it was way cheaper in So Cal.

It's never been illegal and you don't know for a fact that it's against 'their' agreement. It has always been against my agreements in the past but there was just a class action lawsuit that was settled. You can now charge a higher price for the use of a CC.

Every time I think it's bad I ask my buddies in So Cal what they pay. We've got it easy compared to them. I think I pay around $40 a year to register my boat here, I moved to So Cal for one year and the boat was nearly $500!! They charge you a luxury tax on recreational motor vehicles there.
I don't know about boats, but Kali is actually cheaper than Kolorado for plates on cars and vehicles. That's just bad.

I swear I've read the Colorado law that was passed that states that this is illegal. Of course I don't have it bookmarked or anything...

This is my understanding also .. by colorado law you may give a cash DISCOUNT but may NOT have a CC surcharge. so it's all in the way you write the paperwork .. you write it with the CC charge added then offer the cash discount. ( cash/check same diff)

    From here :
    http://www.coloradoattorneygeneral.g...credit_lending

Colorado prohibits merchants from imposing a surcharge on credit transactions. “A surcharge is any additional amount imposed at the time of the sales or lease transaction by the merchant, seller, or lessor that increases the charge to the buyer or lessee for the privilege of using a credit or charge card.” C.R.S. 5-2-212(1)
Now how the counties are getting away with it I do not know..must be a loop hole of some sort.
