    Default Question of the Day

The question of the day is:

Will a Fiocchi 12Ga 00B round that's been buried under the deck for a minimum of 12 years fire properly?

The round in question was dug out of the mud, pine needles and other crud from under the deck we're rebuilding. In order to get the round to chamber I had to scrub the brass portion of the case to remove lots of corrosion. I used a Scotchbrite pad and scrubbed it just enough to allow the round to chamber in my beat-up Stoeger Coach Gun. It was corroded so badly that it was difficult to see the primer.

    Did it fire?

Yes. It fired on the first strike of the hammer just like it was new. I'd say that's a testament to the reliability of modern ammunition.

That's kind of amazing. It went through a lot of weather cycles and still went boom.

Hell yeah! That's awesome Carl! We found out last weekend while shooting that a handful of Federal .45 FMJs after being left in the driver side door pocket of a jeep with the windows down during a snowstorm- ie frozen, then thawed, then soaking wet- still fired perfectly. Not as harrowing as what your 12ga shell went through, but another check in the box for durability and reliability of modern ammo!

BS. Everyone knows that ammo has a shelf life of only 10 years.

Fortunately, this ammo wasn't on a shelf. Guess that's why it worked.
