I've been so wrapped up in current issues, I failed to see your post.
As for the law, the law says you must carry an ID at all times. A temporary ID is that.
Unfortunately, it would be a judgment call by the officer that confronts you, if any.
Best case scenario would be to not only have your tag and temp. ID, but also some proof of residence-an electric bill, gas bill, or, of course, a voter registration card.
I asked my neighbor two doors down, Grant, who is a DOW field officer, and that's what his opinion is, so it's probably pretty accurate.
