Default Newbie with Upper Swap Question

Probably a silly question, I have been reading here and on AR15.com about building my own AR and had this thought and couldn't find the answer . . .

Hypothetically, with one complete lower, can I use the same bolt carrier group with several uppers? I see they are often sold without the bolt carrier group and was just wondering if that were the case.

Just getting back into the evil black rifles, I have a HBAR Colt A2 in the safe that has been there for 20 years, and ordered a Bushmaster Patrolman A2 carbine on election day. Wife had fun shooting the AR earlier this year so I decided to add another to the collection - but I am really intrigued about building my own, think I might have to pick up a few stripped lowers before Jan 20th. Figure our new prez and friends will get after the new Assault Weapon Ban with gusto shortly there after.

Just curious about the bolt carrier group and figured here was a good place to start.

So what I'm hearing is that some people do it and get away with it . . . BUT it is not what is recommended per the experts . . . 'nuf said.

Pretty much what I thought . . . just more money to go to the EBR fund.

I forgot how addicting these are. Lost my first AR in my divorce years ago . . . my Dad gave me it's twin (we'd bought them at the same time) earlier this year (I was the only one who would drag it out of the safe on a regular basis) and have been getting the itch again BAD!

Should have my new Bushmaster this week, then I start collecting for future builds.

Thankfully I stocked up on ammo back when it was cheap.

Yeah as the parts get worn in they form to each other...that is thrown off in another upper because of inconsistent wear...

    Bolt carrier yes, bolt no.....

Buy another bolt carrier group and keep them matched to the weapon.

So what if you bought a used upper and put a new carrier and bolt in it?
