So, I've wanted a bullpup for lots of years. Always thought the Steyr AUG was just plain sexy. Now that I have seen the IMI Tavor my desire for a bullpup has been rekindled.
Now for my dilemma.
Which one do I get?
Going over some pros and cons, here is what I have come up with.
Steyr AUG:
pros:
Always wanted one.
Proven reliability and been around over 30 years.
Always wanted one.
cons:
Proprietary mags (although I believe I can get a replacement stock that takes AR mags)
IMI Tavor:
pros:
newest bullpup on the U.S. market (gives it a "cool factor")
takes readily available AR style magazines
cons:
no real "track record" here in the states for reliability or durability
So, besides the above thoughts, I like the integrated forward grip on the AUG and the ease with which it can be disassembled for cleaning and maintenance. I would think I could probably add some sort of forward grip to the Tavor if I wanted. I have no idea how easy it field strips.
Also, am I correct to assume the Tavor is a semi-auto version of something the Israeli military uses? If so, does anyone know about that rifles history as far as reliability and longevity or how long the deign has been around?
