    Default ATV's ?

I want to get an ATV for hunting next year. I saw the Can Am ad on TV but, they're too much like a racing machine. I think a 500cc of some sort would be in my price range and my ability range. Anyone know of a good all around model?

I have a 98 polaris sportsman 500 with only 475 total miles on it. It hasn't seen much use at all.

It runs fine but the winch stopped working (have no idea if it is the switch or the winch itself) and the switch inside the shifter (which completes the 4x4 mode) sometimes stops working. I have taken the switch out and manually played with it and it started working again so the problem is the switch.

It is setup with a plow and has a small utility trailer.

That might work for me. Dose it have independent suspension by any chance? And can you shift into 4x4 on the fly?

Suspension is independent front and rear. It also has front and rear racks. Its ideal for hunting/yard work/hauling etc......

The gear lever is setup with hi/low/neutral/reverse.

When you are in hi or lo it stays in 2wd until the rear wheel slips and then it kicks it into 4wd automatically.

It has a button on the handle bars to toggle it from 2wd/4wd. If the button is on 2wd the ATV will not kick into 4wd. if the button is on 4wd then it will kick it into 4wd automatically etc...... It's a pretty slick system.

    I have a Honda Rubicon 500cc.
It's an automatic (the same automatic they used in the hondamatic motorcycle of the late 70's as a matter of fact, no belts)

    2wd/4wd, lots of gears

thing has balls, my fat ass on it, pulling harrows, etc and it's never stalled out.

and, it's a honda, always starts.

I've been very pleased with it.

polaris all the way have had them since early 90's.

you don't want to have to be shifting a lever or pedal.. just crank the throttle and go.

500 is plenty big enough for anything,, those with the monsters are just showing off..

Thanks again High Altitude, I figured out the reverse button and all is good so far. I haven't taken it anywhere yet except the parking lot at my office. I put some more air in the tires and can feel a little bump in the tires, can't tell if it's a flat spot in the tire or what? Nobody has been around to help me check it out. Still I'm pretty happy with the deal, thanks again.

Its a flat spot. The ATV spent lots of time just sitting around. The tires are the original 1998 tires etc.... Keep riding it.

    Have fun with it.
