Just so you know, if you are getting tons of weeds in your yard it is because of soil issues. A good healthy lawn that is mowed 3" high and is in good healthy soil will be too thick and tall for weeds to grow well. Mother nature is designed to fix her own problems. Weeds grow in an attempt to fix a problem. For example, dandelions have a very deep taproot. They actually break up compacted soil and pull nutrients up that are too deep for more shallow plants to reach (this only works if they are allowed to decompose back into the soil). If you don't want to go with the fake lawn you need to look at what weeds you are getting and the type of weed will tell you what soil issues you need to address.
