Imitation Lawn Grass

I'm sick of constantly fighting off these nuclear resistant weeds in my backyard all these years and I've finally had enough. The backyard is double tiered as we have two retaining walls. Friends of ours had some faux grass rolls installed and it looks pretty good. Same contractor quoted us $10,000 for 1,200sqf. WTF? Anyone know if these rolls are available to the public?

Just so you know, if you are getting tons of weeds in your yard it is because of soil issues. A good healthy lawn that is mowed 3" high and is in good healthy soil will be too thick and tall for weeds to grow well. Mother nature is designed to fix her own problems. Weeds grow in an attempt to fix a problem. For example, dandelions have a very deep taproot. They actually break up compacted soil and pull nutrients up that are too deep for more shallow plants to reach (this only works if they are allowed to decompose back into the soil). If you don't want to go with the fake lawn you need to look at what weeds you are getting and the type of weed will tell you what soil issues you need to address.

My mom put it in. Tired of mowing/watering/weeding etc. I was there when they put it in. The guy said it matters which direction the visibility was the most important. So looking from the street, it's really hard to tell it's fake. Looking from the house, you can can tell it's not real. I don't remember what company.
I would consider it but my golden retriever hates it! lol

Wow! I did not know that! Good to have a green thumb around to educate us on lawn care... I know our back yard only has the dandelion issue, good to know it's actually doing some good.

Haha, here is a good little article about our "friend" the dandelion. http://www.mofga.org/Default.aspx?tabid=756 I don't know a ton about plants but have been studying permaculture, hugelkultur, and biointensive gardening as part of my zombie day preps. Now that I have a yard I am going to start working on a food forest system combining hugelkultur (woody bed) and micro space urban permaculture to eliminate any need to buy fruits and veggies for the family.

I saw this at Lowe's the other week and if I saw the price tags right it was anywhere from 5-10 dollars per sq ft installed, and that's grading the yard, putting the base material underneath and securing the turf. Price depended on which type you select, and I believe there were 4 to choose from.

Something to think about. Putting it in the utility easement may get it damaged if something needs digging up.
