Default Good place for coffee in Colorado Springs?

Does anyone know of a place that roasts their own coffee beans in Colorado Springs? My parents have a place like that by their house in Michigan, and the coffee is always outstanding.

ETA: I'm really looking for a place to buy beans or grounds, not a place to sit and sip.

While they don't have a coffee shop, High Rise Coffee Roasters in Old Colorado City has excellent coffee. http://www.springscoffee.com/

I used to buy my beans at Pikes Perk even though my shop didn't do its own roasting. I will occasionally venture into the hippy haven, Whole Foods Market, because they do fresh roasting on some decent varietals. The Whole Foods Market near my mother's house in Hawaii also carries some good Hawaiian coffee for $16-20/lb so I usually go in there and buy 4-5 lbs of beans then lock them up tight in sealed zipper bags to preserve the volatiles.

Whole foods roasts their own beans? I might have to look into that. The owner of Whole Foods is actually super conservative.... Which is the perfect business model, because liberals go in there and literally throw their money at the cash registers.

Purple Mountain. They sell it at the GoG trading post and a coffee shop in Briargate, which I think is called common grounds (near Golds Gym).

+1 to Purple Mountain (it may be called Purple Mountain, or Common Grounds, near Golds Gymn @ Briargate & Union) or Whole Foods. I think some of the King Soopers may actually offer this as well...

Ah, well then High Rise is exactly what you want.

I was going to say Bikini Xspresso, but I don't think they sell beans. And their coffee sucks. So nevermind.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.

Yes, the Whole Foods on North Academy has a better selection of beans than the one on Powers (old Wild Oats) at First & Main Town Center. They roast periodically and indicate the roast dates on the respective bean bins. You can probably get a roasting schedule from the guys/gals behind the counter.

I'm with you on the business model ... I just get the creepy crawlies being amongst so many organic granola-eating tree huggers -- about the same reaction as Indiana Jones had to snakes. ;-)

I have to admit though -- I like Whole Foods' salad bar, bulk food honey & maple syrup, and coffee roastery. Their butcher shop is pretty good too if you're willing to drop the dough for some meat.

+1 for Whole Foods. But hey... you shouldn't really give a shit - might ruin your image... ;-)
