Colorado to collect online sales tax

The House Finance Committee last week approved two bills to begin that process: House Bill 13-1295, which puts Colorado into position to participate in the federal Marketplace Fairness Act; and HB 1288, a bill designed to streamline the sales tax process.The third bill: HB 1312, which was to begin immediate collection of online sales taxes, was killed by that same committee when its sponsors couldn’t promise that Colorado wouldn’t wind up in court again.
The Democrat-controlled General Assembly in 2010 passed HB 10-1193, to require online retailers to report to the state how much Colorado citizens owed in sales taxes for those online purchases. However, that law was challenged in court by the Direct Marketing Association. A Denver District Court judge issued a permanent injunction against the bill, and the case is now awaiting appeal with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Imagine my surprise (sarcasm intended) to hear the Democrats (Marxists) want to add yet another tax but have no clue as to how to cut spending.

This is bad. Besides isn't online sales already taxed with shipping charges? And taxing doesn't seem to matter because they just spend money they don't have anyway. It seems like there is a attempt to make it look like they are trying to pay for the things they buy when all they care about is spending.

Tax is Tax. Shipping is Shipping. You sold X item and charged $5.95 for a flat rate priority box. Was that a tax you collected? No it was just a S&H charge.

is this just the state portion of the tax or will it include city tax based on where you live? If not, the cities wont be far behind

I has always been law that you have to pay sales tax on online orders, it's just that it is up to you to pay it yourself when you file at the end of the year. Obviously no one pays the taxes that they are required to pay so now the state is mandating that online sellers either collect or report the taxes to the Colo Dept of Rev.

See my post above.. this is not a new tax, you have always been required to pay it. If you have never paid taxes on your online purchases you are a tax cheat..

To this point - I've done my own taxes for years with TurboTax taking 2 non-consecutive years off to go to a professional when we had some complicated things (RE sales, other investment stuff).
I remember years ago (~10) turbo tax would ask how much you purchased online. And of course even 10 years ago I had absolutely no idea so I'd guess at a figure.
I haven't seen that question in forever, though, and it definitely didn't come up with the tax professionals that I recall. Has anyone else?

I have know that and like most people decide to ignore it. Why you ask, well because it is not Colorado's revenue to claim, it is the revenue of the county and city where i bought the item.
