Default One bullet. Autrailia gun control freaks take next step...

The Autrailian anti-gun nuts are starting the next step.

Gun control lobby begins attack on bolt-action rifles

    14 Jan 2013
    Mick Matheson

The gun control lobby may have signalled the start of its campaign to ban bolt-action rifles in Australia, after worrying comments from gun researcher Philip Alpers.
Alpers, speaking on ABC TV, turned the focus of gun control away from mass shootings and focussed instead on domestic violence, suicide and rifles that shoot “one bullet”.
"Guns are a bit like a virus," he said on ABC TV. "You clamp down on one type of gun, another one pops up and you have to deal with that.”

I asked senator Todd about gun control where she retorted with the standard "I support the 2nd Amendment!" My response was "No, you support limiting me to a 7 round .22. That is not the 2nd Amendment" She did not respond. If your only exposure is the negative side of guns you have no reason to think they should exist. The more people live in a cozy apartment where a cop is only a call away and the threat is what is seen on the nightly news... you repeatedly see the good guys with guns stop the bad guys with guns.... We can all see where this leads.

A real belief that guns should only be in the hands of the good guys... The government.

I think this highlights your point perfectly:
"There is no news in the truth, and no truth in the news."
"The revolution will not be televised... Instead it will be filmed from multiple angles via cell phone cameras, promptly uploaded to YouTube, Tweeted about, and then shared on Facebook, pending a Wi-Fi connection."

"Police have seized hundreds of handguns being smuggled into Australia over the past few years, but no one knows how many have slipped over the borders undetected."

wow, if they can slip over Australia's boards (a big ocean) think how easy it will be here!
Australia is my prime point against gun registration. This just helps my argument.

I was having dinner with some Australians a couple of weeks ago and they were talking about how much they hate the current PM. They seemed very conservative (and one of them looked a lot like GWB), except about guns, to my surprise. They said something about how they liked John Howard (ex PM) and I said "wasn't he the guy that took your guns away?" They said "nooo, he just took them away from the people who weren't supposed to have them". They defended him all the way. The host told me when he moved out into the country he applied for all 3 classes of licenses (I don't know what all the classes are, except one was semi-auto), and he was approved immediately. The called him on the phone and said "why do you need a semi-automatic weapon?" He said "because when I shoot goats, by the time they hear the first shot they're already scattering and I need faster follow up shots." "Okay, come get your license".

I still don't know what to make of the conversation, except that it seems even the conservatives there don't care much about firearms. They just don't see it in the same way we do. We see it as a right, and protection against tyranny, and they don't.

They went on and on about the other liberal policies absolutely destroying the country though. One guy owned a very successful commercial painting company, and he hired a crew of guys for a couple week long job. They showed up the first day and worked. Then they didn't show up again until the last day, and they all had sick notes from a doctor. He called the doctor and said WTF? And she said she didn't actually witness the sickness, but was obligated to take their word for it. Why is it a big deal? Because he had to pay these guys for the entire job because they were able to produce a sick note. He many stories about people working the system in ways that I can't imagine happening here - probably because we have guns.

Australia never fought a war of independence so gun control doesn't have the same gut-level reaction for them. America's experience is fortunately/unfortunately pretty unique in the world as is Israel's. Most other countries either have never had to experience those tyrannies or are still under them.
