    Default Bolt Jammed?????

I received my Armalite AR 15 .223 yesterday. I loaded a mag and put it in. I shut the bolt and a round loaded. The bolt is now stuck shut. The handle will only move about a 1/4 inch. I removed the upper for safety reasons but cannot get the bolt to release. I really don't want to pay a smith, but I will if I have to. What should I do???

    Thanks Bryan

It may not be pretty and without seeing it...
    Contact the manufacterer...

Pry a screwdriver or small prybar onto the bolt and try to get it out.

Cleaning rod and small hammer from the business end
Those are the fisrt 3 things I can think of.

Live round I think I'd just take to a gunsmith. I really recommend against the cleaning rod or anything down the barrel with a live round.

This is a method to handle a stuck case, and I might try this at a range or other safe area, but definitely not in my house.

Standard drill for an ar with a stuck case , pull out charging handle and hold with some force, smack buttstock on ground like the gun belongs to uncle sam .
This usually works but if the extractor slips over the rim-then you are on your own.

    Reassemble gun.

    Put selector on safe.

Place muzzle upwards, pointing at something you can destroy without getting charged with a crime or feeling terrible.

Place left hand on handguard of gun, place middle and index finger of right hand on charging handle, slam buttstock of gun into ground with lefthand, simultaneously pull on charging handle with right hand. Technique is called mortaring and should fix your problem.

I took it to The Shooting Shop South in Littleton Colorado and he unjammed it and cleaned it up a little. He said it was the PMC ammo I bought at the gun show. I highly recommend the shooting shop south to anyone needing a smith.

    Thanks For the responces!
