Default Windows Office Product Key Problem

Some of you might remember that I did a system restore deal a few months ago that completely restored my hard drive to factory settings. It worked great and solved all of the problems that I was having.

The only issue is that I am getting the "enter your Windows Product Key" in order to use Word, Excel, etc. (Word/XL 2007). This was a refurb machine, so the product key that is on the sticker on the machine doesn't work. My guess is they installed a different version during the refurb? I can't seem to find the paperwork from the purchase of this machine which is weird (I'm pretty anal about that shit) but so it is.

I have a few more "trials" of Word and Excel before it denies me. Any hints/tips/tricks or am I hosed? Thanks!

Call in to the 1800 number they provide. You can usually get an override key that way if you aren't legit stealing.

And don't mention that it's a refurb, or that you are not the original owner. Insist that you are the original owner and the harddrive crashed.

No, when the activation follows, Microsoft has a 1-800 number listed to call in... If you don't get one there, do this:

When prompted to activate, don't select automatic activation, but choose activate over the phone. It will provide a 1-800 number there too.

Looks like i'm a little late to this thread, but it looks like you may be using the wrong key. The key on the label on the side of the machine is usually for the operating system (i.e. Windows 7) and not Microsoft software such as Office 2007, etc. There should be a separate key for Office, Word, etc.
