I had a savage converted to Ackley Improved years ago. Unfortunately, I had it done out of state.

I bet Bert (BPTactical) could do it. It's just a matter of reaming the chamber I think.

Much as I hate to send the jerk off any business, Bruce @ Active Arms could probably do it. As a human being he is a disaster but he is a good gunsmith. BTW, several years ago I had gun shop in Texas do the same conversion for me on a LH model 16 Savage. I sent them the complete gun and they re chambered it to 223AI, re crowned the muzzle re assembled the gun with correct headspace and had it back to me in less than two weeks. Total cost: $100.00. I am still shooting prairie dogs with that gun today.Charlie

What MV improvements have you measured? According to shooter, a 150 FPS increase is only 0.5 inch flatter at 300 yards with a 250 yards zero.

I saw no improvement in mine but very little loss. The reason I went with the conversion in the first place was because I was taking nearly ten inches off the length of the barrel.

That sounds about right. If you really want to see some improvement re chamber it to 22BR.Charlie

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll just stick with stock. A new trigger would help more than anything else.

Sharp Shooters Supply makes a great trigger for Savages. I have them in all my Savages
