    Default Manitou Incline

    Damn.

Went almost half way up with my girls today. Oldest is 5 youngest is 2 next week. They walked all the way to where we stopped except for maybe 100 yds each where I carried them. Real troopers.

On the way down we passed a group of Army guys stopped on the side. Waiting for one of their buddies to catch up. Who had to sit down. When he heard how far the girls had gotten he commented "Damn, they are doing better then I am..."

I was nice. I didn't mention it was due to being offspring of a Marine. Not some lazy ass Army puke...

But that was because there was another Army guy walking up with a 40 lb pack and his 25 lb kid sitting on his shoulders. Screw that. Might as well hump full kit.

ETA: Wife made it to the top. Ditched me and the kids to hump it quickly. My turn next week.

That Army puke might have just returned from sea level in the desert -- cut him a break until you hear the full story.

Seriously, good on you! My quads seem to cramp up on me regularly when doing hills, just can't knock them out anymore.

They were in shorts with camelbaks. Even coming from sea level they should have been able to walk up it. Not at a major speed, but a decent walk.

The one dude with his kid and backpack on, that dude was doing just fine.

First I've heard that shorts and Camelbaks help with aerobic efficiency. I'm just saying that the change from sea level can really hit some people hard, even people who are reasonably in shape. I used to see it occasionally with people coming in TDY from one of the coasts and it's not like they were lazy out-of-shape bastards like me.

I tried the incline once. Got a little more than halfway and then my poor knees just gave out... It's definitely a climb for this fat bodied fellow. On the flip side, my BIL who is a health nut runs up the whole thing like it's nothing... incredible. lol

OFFS. It isn't like he was doing a boots and utes or humping a ruck. Aerobic efficiency? How about just not having that much more weight on him. Does the Army not ruck anymore? If you run 1st class PFT you should be alright walking up a hill, even the Manitou incline.

Hats off to everyone! Family members, Marines and Army alike.

It really isn't a joke of a climb.

Nice eye candy every once and a while. Especially when I am walking backwards up the hill and the low cut shirts are leaned over walking up. I am of course walking backwards to keep an eye on one of my kids.
