    Default 870 EJECTS WEAKLY

I have this new 870 that has been having weak ejection from day one.
Unfired shells and snap-caps will fly off the ejection port as they should, but fired shells will barely fall out and sometimes just stovepipe.
Before you ask, yes, I am pumping the damn thing as it should.
The ejector spring was just replaced by Bert, so we can rule that out.
It seems to be quite a common issue on newer 870s
I have mostly shot Winchester Universal .
Some people on the web have resolved the issue by using better quality shells but then again to others it made no difference.
I will try some AA as soon as I can find some, but does anybody have any suggestion in the meanwhile?

We ran 870's for years at Scout camp with very few issues and you can imagine the abuse they took. The newer 870's seem to lack the quality of the older ones. Unfortunate because they were the affordable work horse shotgun. I hope you find a solution and please update if you do.

Maybe try replacing the extractor and extractor spring . maybe the extractor dosent have a firm grip on the shell and the ejector cant sling it out. I have 2 870 but have never ran in to an issue like you are having. I know my 870 police dosent like the cheapie lo-brass stuff they get stuck in the chamber and the chamber and whole barrel are polished.

I don't think the extractor is at fault here guys, as long as it is hooking the rim and withdrawing the hulls it is working as planned.
Low brass allows more hull area to expand and attempt to "grip" the chamber and increases friction.
Just a thought but I wonder if the chambers are a smidge undersized.
Let me do a bit of homework and Lu, it might be worth taking a chamber cast and see how it stacks up against a print.

Cleaned out the extractor channel, filed the extractor smooth (had some burrs) and a couple of sharp edges on the barrel extension...
So far 25 shells trough and no stove pipes...

This seems to be a fairly common problem for newer Remington's. I owned two that needed some "adjusting".

A little off topic but I have a newer 870 Magnum Express that fails to feed frequently due to the carrier not lifting high enough and causing the front of the shell to hit the bottom of the chamber. I have cleaned and oiled several times and still no luck. Any thoughts on that one? Is this another mass production flaw of the newer 870's? My old Wingmaster has never had an issue. Thanks for any suggestions.
