nevermind!thread edit!
Exactly my point. I think it sucks that they poached an elk, lied about it, and did it all on the clock. But they're being lined up for the firing squad like they're some sort of molesters, whereas far more serious actions/errors in judgement end up with paid administrative leave and little else. This elk thing should be a suspension or at most - firing, and freaking drop it. Not that big a deal.
No doubt. Sentenced by a jury of their naked, mushroom-munching peers. lol.

I don't accept the false dichotomy that I have to choose between being upset over this issue and any other police issues.
In this case, the cops broke the law, knowingly and willfully, planned in advance to do so, lied to the public in the course of the commission of the crime, and lied more to try to cover it up. They tried to get away with it under the auspices of being cops. If that's not one of the most serious breaches of the public trust, I don't know what is.
At the end of the day, it's about more than "just an elk".
I also bet some of the guys making a show of yawning over this would be going apeshit if it was "just a dog". The elk can't be replaced, but you can just go down to the pound and get another dog.
Wasn't it not only poached out of season, but also shot in town, in a neighborhood, after dark? What would happen to Joe Six-Pack and Bubba if they did the same thing?
