I don't accept the false dichotomy that I have to choose between being upset over this issue and any other police issues. In this case, the cops broke the law, knowingly and willfully, planned in advance to do so, lied to the public in the course of the commission of the crime, and lied more to try to cover it up. They tried to get away with it under the auspices of being cops. If that's not one of the most serious breaches of the public trust, I don't know what is. At the end of the day, it's about more than "just an elk". I also bet some of the guys making a show of yawning over this would be going apeshit if it was "just a dog". The elk can't be replaced, but you can just go down to the pound and get another dog.

It's true, no matter how major or minor, the outrage on this site would be tremendous.
