    Default Olympic Arms Plinker Plus

This has probably come up on this forum before, so sorry if it is redundant. I am in the market for an AR to plink with at the range. I'm not going to use it for home defense, just plinking for me and my son. All ARs seem to be hard to come by now and sell at a premium. I have a chance to buy a new (still in the box) Olympic Arms Plinker Plus Flat Top for $1,200. I know its a $700 to $800 rifle but the seller won't move on the price. The only one I've found online thru a dealer that has it in stock is $1,100. My concern is that forums seem to totally trash this rifle as complete junk. All the nicer ones I've seen are $2,000 to $3,000 and I can't swing that right now. I just want one I can go to the range with and have fun. I welcome anyone's input, but please keep in mind I'm not looking to enter tactical competitions with the rifle or do combat with it. I just don't want to waste $1,200. Case in point I reload with a Lee Pro 1000 which is half the cost of a Dillon or RCBS, it also tends to get trashed on forums. Yeah it's tempermental and not as easy to use as it's more expensive cousins but I have reloaded over 2,500 rounds without a single misfire and much better results than factory ammo. I'm very careful in what I do, but I am concerned that this rifle is not worth the money. Thoughts?

You are definitely not doing due diligence with rifle prices. For $100 more you can buy a new colt @ walmart , jensens or a few other LGS's.

Agree with Jim. You can get a much better rifle for the same money or less if you are patient and keep an eye out. You can do better on this forum if you watch the trading post. I had an Olympic. For $500/600 it's an ok option if you don't mind tinkering with it and you never plan to use it for anything other than a range toy. For $1200 I wouldn't touch it. That price is Colt, BCM, DD territory and they are far better rifles. If you really are only looking for a range toy, just wait for the panic to blow over. Things are slowly starting to return to normal.

Start looking here. There are plenty of better quality, lower priced options out there.
