    Default Frustrated!

Ok so those of you that run a gun store or can shed some light on the subject chime in. I recently bought a Rifle and took it out to the range and it has issues. When I rack a cartridge in the chamber it's sometimes almost impossible to close the bolt. I mean the only way you can close it is if you are violent with it. So I took it in and he said he thought it just needed broke in.
(The bolt, which i believe it's more than that) so according to him either I try to break it in or send it back. Not ever dealing with this kind of issue, is that the case with a new gun? They can't just give me another? Sorry if that is a newb question but never had to deal with this.

You should never have to force the bolt closed, and in doing so you put yourself at risk for a serious malfunction. The action should be smooth. You either have an ammo problem or a firearm problem.

    1. What type of firearm?
    2. What type of ammo?

It's a Remington 700 .300 win mag. I have tried two different types of ammo Remington & Winchester and same scenario on each.

What gun store did you buy it from? That sounds completely unsafe.

If they won't try another bolt and/or check the headpacing for you, send it back.

Sportsmans is where I bought it. I will be taking it back this week. It's just frustrating because it'll prob be a while until I get it back. But I want it to be right and hopefully it'll be back in time for Elk season.

Agreed. I had this issue once with BVAC ammo in a .308, but mine was definitely ammo related. They replaced the whole case, free shipping too.

Did you clean the chamber with a good solvent? I have seen Remmy's with very thick coatings have the same issue.

A factory gun with factory ammo should not have to be forced unless something is wrong.

I did. I cleaned it really good, shined a bore light and it still had the issue.

Is it a new rifle ?

Your transferring a federally regulated seriel numbered item , its not as simple as taking your t shirt back because you got the wrong size . Once you do the transfer it's yours .

The manufacturers have al ,l as far as I know , taken all warranty repairs back in house so you have to send it back to them for repair under warranty .
