Sales pitches at car places are the worst. I go in with a coupon for an oil change and tire rotation and they guy practically tries to sell me a new front end suspension!

Tuesday evening I was in Lowes getting some replacement sprinkler heads and a customer asked the Lowe's employee where the control wire for sprinklers was and I kid you not the guy responded that the best wire was to get some sprinkler flags, strip the flag off and use it. The look on the guys face was utter disbelief and he said I have to run 40' of control wire.

Now typically what drives me nuts is Best Buy and other places selling computers, I cringe most every time someone from Best Buy tries to explain something.

Ran into it when I bought my TV a couple years ago at "Best" Buy... what a joke! I used to work there way back when (2005ish) in the Home Theater department, and had to know what I was selling. Granted, I knew what I was looking for and just hadn't settled on which brand and the exact size (40" range). The guy I dealt with hadn't a single clue as to what he was doing and when I asked "What's the Hz on this one?" He gave me a deer in the headlights. If I were selling cars and someone asked what the HP was on a certain car, and I didn't know, odds are I'd probably be fired. I found I just don't need salesmen anymore, I research beforehand and hope they have what I'm looking for either in stock or available for order.

On another note, working in the insurance world, I've found some people to be shady POSs and that everyone should know a little something about their home before getting insurance- such as: Market value and replacement cost (your dwelling/Coverage A) are two very different things. What I've seen a lot of is that some agents write policies very poorly... meaning, let's say it'll cost $500,000 to rebuild your house and the company your agent goes through offers 125% replacement cost coverage, so they say "Well it'll take 500K to rebuild it, but we have 125% so we'll write it for $375K and save you some money!" Well what if it ends up actually being $600K to rebuild it? Where is that extra $100K going to come from? That's right, you're gonna have to sue your agent for it. It's ridiculous... we try to be fair to both the customer and the company we represent, and being accurate in the replacement cost estimate is a win-win for everyone.

To question your government is not unpatriotic — to not question your government is unpatriotic.

Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

I forgot to defrost some film for an impromptu climb so i called Mikes Camera the other day and asked if they had any 220 film. After a few seconds of silence the girl said no one uses film any more and prompted me to stop by and get a digital point and shoot. I said no thank you i am partial to my Mamiya for landscapes. She said mom ma what? I hang up the phone and went else where.

First (and last) car I bought from a dealer. I was still in high school and bought the car for $7k outright, no financing. I'm sitting there counting out greenbacks and the woman doing the paperwork was being a complete bitch. Just don't understand that one.

Parts jockeys in the local parts houses get me too. Nearly EVERY diagnosis they give for a check engine light is an o2 sensor.

Auto parts counter jockeys are my biggest peeve.

    One example:

Me: Ask for Holley carb jets in three different sizes.
Jockey: What car is it on?
Me: Doesn't matter. I need these parts. They are not stock.
Jockey: I need a make of car to look for it.

This goes around for a couple of rounds. I finally play his game and the end result is that he can't find it in his 'puter. Now I tell him to go back and find the Holley catalogue and find the part #s. Ten minutes later he came out with what I asked for. That was a wasted 1/2 hour.

Anymore I will gladly pay a little more for a service person who knows there ass from a hole in the ground.

This is why I buy all my digital cables from monoprice.com With a digital signal it is all 1s and 0s. There is no quality gradient here... Like you said: it either works or it doesn't. Bonus: Since you can buy a 12ft HDMI cable from monoprice for $3 plus about $3 shipping, you might as well buy 2 "just in case". That being said, I've ordered hundreds of dollars of cables, parts, speakers, etc from them and I've never received anything from them that didn't work as expected right out of the box.

Granted there is a difference between a higher end HDMI cable and the basic Wal-mart brand, but it's really not huge at all... It's not like the difference between a $200 1911 and a Nighthawk Custom.
