Ronin, car sales people are not required to know Dick about the vehicles, especially used.

People mis-using the term "no-fault" in reference to auto accidents.
Most common is, "Well, this is a no fault state, so no one is at fault." I can honestly say that I have NEVER heard someone use the term correctly. Unfortunately, police are notorious for giving bad insurance info out to people involved in car accidents.

I took the car to the Saturn dealer to get the brakes looked at, pulling left under med/hard braking. Service guy takes it out said he didn't see it or feel it. I go to the service counter to try to get to talk to the mechanic and the counter guy chimes in. He said he sees this often and that most folks don't know pulling to one side is normal. I ask why. He said the brake fluid container is on the left side of the compartment so since it's closer to the front left brake, that brake will get more pressure. Then the right front, left rear etc. It took me a bit to process what he was saying, then I just stopped talking to him.
Once the mechanic came out I told him to take a ride with me. Showed him clearly what it was doing, let him drive it and experience the pull. Told him to really mash the brakes, it just about yanked the steering wheel out of his hands. He said it could be the curve of the road we were on. I thanked him and went about my way. Never went back there. I still kinda think they were messing with me but....

In my experience it was actually easier to make the sale when I didn't know jack about the car or at least played dumb. I also never once had a customer ask how much HP a particular vehicle had.

I had the same experience, but didn't want to insult any salesmen who actually do their asdsfrom a hole in the ground.

on vehicles, why do they try to undersell?
example, walk into dodge dealer many years ago, 12 or so.
"looking for a 94-02 cummins, manual 4wd, extended cab" (they usually have some parked out front)
thats a heck of a truck, what are you using it for?
"towing, and work, typically will have 5-6k pounds towing across the country.
"only 5 or 6k pounds? you can do that with a 1/2 ton just fine! And why manual, the autos are so smooth!
"Because diesels eat diesels, and I want to set the cruise going over eisenhower at 70, not sitting on the side of the road with burnt trans or whipping it like a pig to get it over a pass, do you have one of the trucks I asked about or not?"

Worst part was, out of 6 places, every one wanted to sell me a 1/2ton. I asked to spend more money, why arent you taking it? And yes, that dealer, had 2 trucks that fit the bill on the lot! Pissed me off enough when I I told him Id let him know, after the test drive. "why dont you just take it home, show it to the wife, and if she doesnt like it, bring it back tomorrow" He was told "because if I come home with a truck that is more than I am wanting to spend (20k for a 12k truck), I wont be coming back, she'll come back after burying me"

Then you hear the "Well, player X would sound the same on horn A vs B"....

Well, duh you friggin' moron, player X has X number of years of performing and is competent to produce. However, I can guarantee you that player X is working his behind off trying to get a decent sound out of horn A, while when he uses horn B, it's a friggin Maybach in comparison!

    HA
THIS... String instruments are even harder because as they get up there in price, the qualities that separate a $45k from a $50k instrument may be so small that the average person doesn't even notice.

It takes a pretty experienced player to appreciate the difference in the distance between the strings, the slope of the fingerboard, the strings action height, and then how each of those work for/against each other. Most times, you can change some of them by chainging a little part here or there, but then the instrument might sound different, and thusly, the value drops. Your $40k instrument might now be only worth $25k because you made a change 5 years ago.

    Good luck!

Was looking for a particularly configured road bike and couldn't find it at the end of the model year. I stopped in a dealer in Morrison on a lark and the owner tells me he has one in my size, but it wasn't put together. I tell him, "that's exactly what i want....." Now, generally, you'd think that the owner of the shop, who didn't appear to be doing much of anything (not one customer in the store the entire time i was there) would consider saying "i can have that bike together for you in an hour." The guy said he could build it over the next few days and took my name and number. Of course, I found it elsewhere, cheaper, and never got that call back. Could be that the bike is still sitting there in the box for all i know.

"Hi, could you tell me how much to change the brakes on my car?"
"Sure, what type of vehicle is it?"

I have NEVER had this happen, and have purchased 2 Cummins, and obviously shopped around. If anything, the opposite or trying to fit me into a closely, but not identically configured vehicle on the upside of the one I wanted.

Default Gun Counter ignorance is not just in the gun store. Name some other examples.

Jockey: I need a make of car to look for it.

This goes around for a couple of rounds. I finally play his game and the end result is that he can't find it in his 'puter. Now I tell him to go back and find the Holley catalogue and find the part #s. Ten minutes later he came out with what I asked for. That was a wasted 1/2 hour.

Anymore I will gladly pay a little more for a service person who knows there ass from a hole in the ground.
I have a jeep Cherokee. eVERY time it's " is that a grand Cherokee?".

If it were a grand, I'd have said grand Cherokee.

I swapped In a ford explorer rear axle.

What year? Doesn't matter, pick one. What year is the vehicle it's going on? Doesn't matter, it's not a stock part, like I said. well lets just try.

I need injector o-rings. We don't have any for your vehicle. Ok, give me some from a ford with a 302. What vehicle? What year? really? Why are you working here?
