    Default Janitorial Protest/strike

It looked like a pro-Rockies parade from my window, but on the street it's a bunch of cleaning staff demanding $15/hr. One lady was very upset when I wouldn't take her pamphlet. Said I wasn't supporting hardworking Americans.

I'm very messy. I support the hell out of janitors

If you're a janitor, I genuinely appreciate the work you do. But you're not getting anywhere near an increase in pay if the trash ain't empty tomorrow.

When they go back to school and get their masters in janitorial engineering, then I will support them getting $15/hr.

my buddy and I had one approach us at chik fil a and saying we should support fast food workers getting $15 an hour. I explained how much they will make when the automated ordering systems are implemented like I've seen in a few cities and to be happy with what you have or get a better job.

    speaking of chik fil a

Ever notice how many people work at a chik fil a vs. say a BK or a McD's? It's a lot. there are simply a LOT of people employed at any one time by Chik Fil a
Yet I'm pretty sure Chik Fil A makes a lot of money, probably more than McD's (certainly more than BK)

    huh, something ot think about

Reminds me of when the janitors and garbagemen went on strike while I was in high school. Seems they wanted to be paid like the teachers. I think we went 3 weeks without janitorial or garbage service while the students and parents swept the floors and took care of the trash. I don't remember what they settled at but it wasn't teachers' salaries.

Its tought to justify paying $15/hour for an employee that can be replaced by someone who is happy to make $7/hour while sending $4/hour of that pay back to their family in their native country. I've often wondered why low wage employees have not organized to support tougher immigration standards.

How much were Walmart workers making in North Dakota during the Baaken boom? IMO, demand and supply provide a very efficient method of setting fair wages.

They're working in the wrong place. Up here the town STARTS it's custodial staff @ $12.50 per.

What's interesting the State of CO pays it's custodial staff $9.50 per, starting.. With little or no increase outside COL.

If they get $15/hr, I know what I'm doing during the slow season.

City of denver contracts theirs out. They were trying to save some money and they changed the contract so that janitorial was vacuuming the offices and hallways at 3pm. I guess it saved money because they didn't do it after hours. What a pain to be on the phone or meeting with someone and have them come in to your office doing that shit.

It stopped, now they don't vacuum at all I believe.
