Pete had some great guests, Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch, Pam Geller, authors, finance people, and many more. I'll miss that.

Pete railed alot on Bush, I got tired of it.

One of the strategies behind the Iraq war was to draw terrorists to Iraq and kill them in Iraq instead of having the terrorists come to the United States and murder American citizens. Thousands of jihadis took the bait, went to Iraq and died, that was a good thing. Pete never brought this up, I was disappointed that he didn't.

Interesting theory. Where did you come up with that? (Resources?)

I doubt its validity because why would small groups of terrorists migrate into a hot zone filled with an entire armed force ready to fire on them? That goes against their cowardice nature of striking the unarmed and unprepared.

On Boyles, meh. It would only affect me if his replacement is inadequate. I am sure he will find work.

From a Bush Speech in 2005 - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...113000667.html - edited to say - I read about this part of the strategy some time ago, this speech is just the first hit I came across when I googled Iraq strategy.

This is an enemy without conscience, and they cannot be appeased. If we're not fighting and destroying this enemy in Iraq, they would not be idle. They would be plotting and killing Americans across the world and within our own borders. By fighting these terrorists in Iraq, Americans in uniform are defeating a direct threat to the American people.
You make an excellent point about the cowardice of the terrorists, OTOH it was cheaper for terrorist leaders to send them a couple hundred miles instead of several thousand miles. Finances always play a role.

Why would they? Because they are not the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree. And whether or not you believe it was an intentional strategy, it was widely discussed as a tactic, and in point of fact its what happened to a great extent. A lot of non-Iraqi extremists flocked to Iraq, instead of heading for the US or Europe. And died there.

Quite a few were captured and my unit was responsible for transporting them to their respective countries and turning them over to their governments; specifically, Syria, Egypt and Jordan. We had one British citizen and he was taken by the Brits. Very strange to see a hajji and hear him speak in an English accent.
“Every good citizen makes his country's honor his own, and cherishes it not only as precious but as sacred. He is willing to risk his life in its defense and is conscious that he gains protection while he gives it.” Andrew Jackson
