Thanks to a generation that held reserve for something greater than themselves.
Nice pics Alex but curious why the Typhoon is not painted in D day fashion (white/blackwing stripes)

Timing was in my favor, I was in Europe during my mid-tour leave from Iraq and visited the beaches and memorial on November 11th, 2008. I still get goose bumps thinking about how I felt when I walked up the steps and first saw the endless rows of perfectly lined crosses, knowing just down the beach many young men younger than me at the time stormed those beaches and died.

This was what I got to see walking up the steps...

My paternal grandfather was a navigator on a B-17 in Europe at that time and my maternal grandfather had just swapped from being a merchant marine to the Navy and was in the Pacific working on teletype machines in ships' commo rooms if they came into port with problems. I just recently found pics from both theaters when I was in Michigan a couple of months ago, though none were of D-Day. Still interesting to see the equipment used and what the landscape was like during and right after the war.

A day to remember and express gratitude. I only have snippets of info about my relatives & their involvement but I know many we're involved, some Navy some Air Force. A moment of silence and a heartfelt "thank you" to all. May their example not go unnoticed.
