Work on AR

I'm looking to have a new free float hand guard put on an AR in the Denver area. I've driven down to the Springs to have this done before but would like to know to do it locally. Any recommendations?

I'm afraid that I don't have any suggestions in your area, but it's really not hard to do by yourself and even after you pay for a few tools you'll likely come out about even and gain a little knowledge.

And not trying to high jack the thread, but out of curiousity, what is the general view of firearms in Denver?

I know a guy that does them for a store up here in the Loveland-Greeley area. If you want his name send me a PM. Like Paradude54 said though, it isn't too tough to do. A couple of tools will get the job done for ya. Either an AR wrench and upper receiver block, or just a plain old dremel.

Jeez, I have a vice mounted on some scrap steel that slides into the receiver on my bumper. For barrel work which doesn't panic the neighbors I'll bring it inside and just stand on the end.

The LaRue freefloats require a bit of Dremel work on the usual upper receiver blocks, to clearance for the half-moon shaped plate that holds it in place. Just so you know. It's been a few years but I don't anything special for a Daniel Defense.

Would be plenty willing to let you use it [s]free[/s] for a sixpack, but I'm down in the Springs...

I can do it for around forty I am a certified gunsmith just starting up shop for Ar-15 just send me a mesage. I dont mean to dis anybody but it is not easy it does need some one that knows what there doing has any body heard of torque or headspace?

Changing the forearms has no effect on headspace.

Yeah, really. WHat the hell does changing forends have to do with headspace? Pete, BTW, Love the CMMG lower you sold me. Finished the gun, shoots very well.

I am not saying that a forend has anything to do with head space the question is do you know your rifle is within headspace? allot of barrels that are mass produced (bush master DPMS and 1 or 2 colts) that I have worked with don't headspace at least with my luck and I have had to send them back. I have seen lots of recievers ruined by someone over torquing the barrel nut and striping the threads off. And it is not very common but I have seen a few rifles that would not funtion because the barrel nut was out of spec just saying that if you are replacing the original assembly with any after market part you just have to be a little carefull and have the right tools to do it. I am not afraid to say I dont know everything but I have worked on a few hundred of these rifles.
