Sub-Sonic Ammo

I know that CCI manufacturers sub-sonic .22 (LR) ammunition, but does anyone know of any .223 Rem sub-sonic ammuntion? Does it even exist?

If such a thing exists, I'd like to pick some up for predator (yote) shooting near a co-workers rural home (if she ever permits it) or at other land-owners homes. I figure that the less I would disturb the land-owner, the better chance I'd have of getting permission to hunt on their land.

I know Engle Ballistic Research makes some, I would have to do some looking around for more info. I shoot his 180 gr. .308 out of my Rem. 700 with Gemtech TPRS can. It's stupid quiet, but at 100 yards only has .38 Special ballistics and you need to hold off four mils (if you have a mil-dot scope) elevation at that distance. Also, most .223 subsonic that is out there will not reliably cycle a semi-auto gun. I think Black Hills Ammo might make .223 sub.

I loaded my own .223 subs 6.5 grns of IMR 7828 with a hornady 60 grn SP they were stupid quiet.

My problem is this when you load a .223 subsonic your shooting a .22 LR so why not just shoot .22 LR. .308 you can go up to a 220 grn bullet and at least have something for knock down power.

Like Ryan said when you go subsonic you loose everything that cartrige is capable of. With .223 it's a joke might as well just shoot a .22.

Yeah, I have a Ruger bolt action .223 (M77MkII) that I was looking to use it in.

I agree with what you're saying, but my thought process on this is that I can throw a touch more lead at the target. Of all of the rifles I have, I don't own even one .308 (I do have plenty of .22 S, L , LR, WRF Mag, and Hornet to choose from).

I know from my youth that I can take down a yote, even at range, with a .22LR but I wanted to try something a bit different. I may try to load the recipe that you provided - again, just for something different.

Also looking for sub-sonic 22 Hornet for a Springfield M6. Supposedly, these were originally supplied with sub-sonic ammo to reduce the chances of exposure by a downed pilot while still providing the ability to hunt small game.

Be carefull loading your own sub-sonic ammo. The problem is that most folks think you just put in less powder and your ok, but that less powder leaves alot of empty space in the case. You may not get good flame propagation from the primer thru the powder, and the low bullet speeds may lead to baffle strikes that manufacturer's won't warrenty. I know GemTech will only fix a can with Engle or Black Hills ammo.
