FFL transfer question

Can Mr. A use his credit card to purchase a firearm from an out-of-state gun dealer and upon having the firearm shipped to a Colorado FFL can Mr. B then complete the 4473? No funny business going on... Mr. A owed Mr. B money and Mr. B will be the owner of the firearm. Is that acceptable?

I believe that has been discussed in another thread in the last few months. You (or anyone) can pay for the purchase of a firearm as long as the recipient is the one doing the 4473.

However, best to work with your FFL first to clarify. Assuming you're using RFB I expect he'll play.

Some FFl's don't care, some do. Depends on if they think it is a straw purchase.

Did this a while back, in a small group buy to get a discounted price on some AKs, everyone involved did a 4473 at the FFL to receive their AK.

As long as the person receiving the firearm does the 4473 (and there are no indications of straw purchase), then most of the stores I've dealt with will do this. We had a guy denied once that then talked about just having his wife buy the gun. I told him hell no. Then again I've had wives pay for guns for their husbands as a gift and the husband does the paperwork for receiving the gun, no problem. With all of that said, a guy buying another guy a gun is pretty rare and begs suspicion.

Ultimately, if you want to keep the transaction free from clutter, have the guy that owes you money pay you money and then do the purchase yourself.

There was a guy that had a gun I wanted, he wanted a gun I did not have so I offered to pay for what he wanted at a shop that gave me a great price. He agreed and we met at the appointed time. We told the shop manager up front what was going down, the guy filled out the 4473, passed the BGC and I laid down the cash. No issues at all, nothing illegal about it. This was a local deal and did not involve the shipping of a firearm from another state.

Don't do that at sportsmans in Thornton. I bought my WIFE a gun and she took the BGC and when we went to check out I started counting the cash and laid the money down, the female manager then proceeded to tell me that they would not do a straw sell. I explained that it was not a straw sell and even if I had taken the BGC myself I could have given her the gun as a gift anyway so what was the big deal. I had to pull up the ATF site and read the damn law to her before she got fed up and said whatever and proceeded to take my money. I love gun dealers that don't know or understand the law I'm which they are supposed to be operating under. (Btw this was 10 months ago).

She's not any sort o dealer, just a manager. Gun dept is just a small section of SW. Saying that i am sure someone can validate no matter how big, or small the LGS is, someone working there knows less than the person buying. Then again,s someone working there, knows more then the person buying.
