    Default Damn it.

Coming home from the Good guys show this Saturday the engine in the truck decided it didn't like it's life anymore so it took it's own life. Now I get the fun of replacing it.

So instead of going back to the show on Sunday I decided to start tearing into it.

I got the front clip off lastnight, now it's time to pull the motor and figure out what to stuff back into it. I've got an LS here in the garage that would be sweet in there with a turbo on it, but that means, wiring, new tranny, new crossmembers, new driveshaft, new fuel tank, new fuel system. That sounds more like a winter project. I'll probably just stuff another small block in it to get me back on the road for summer, then figure out a more permanent solution this winter.

It popped on I-25 right next to the Berthoud motocross track. My dad was following me in his 40 Ford, we left the truck on the side of the highway, ran to a buddies grabbed his truck and trailer and drug it home.

Bad part of it was I had my kids with me, and we were already running late, I was supposed to take them home, grab my wife and take them all to the airport for a week in Florida. Luckily my sister wasn't too far away and she was able to come grab the kids and get them and the wife to DIA in time to catch their flight.

Why would you have to swap the tranny?

    Ouch. BTDT, no fun.

What are you going to replace it with?

That sucks, but working on a cool truck is a million times better than repairing some boring modern vehicle. The LS is cool and all, but the simplicity of a plain old small block is where it's at.

Man, I need to convince the wife we need a hot rod...

He wouldn't have to but what I'm assuming is a TH350 or TH400 in it now wouldn't do a turbo'd LS justice. I've got friends that run 3 speed automatics behind LS engines but they're less than ideal on the street/highway.

A th350 or 400 would hold up but I wouldn't boost it more than 5-7lbs till he could get a built 80 in it, we built a shop truck and ran 10lbs on it for almost a year till we did an 80 swap
