    Default Dravet syndrome and marijuana

    http://kdvr.com/2013/06/11/medicinal...ality-of-life/

There is a link at the bottom of the page to the original Gazette article, which is awe inspiring. Synopsis: 6 year old girl with 1200 seizures a month, maxed out on meds, literally dying from the side effects. Mom uses a low-THC content strain extract, now girl is having only THREE seizures in a month, with no side fx from the pot.

Near to my heart, because I have a close friend with a daughter her age, also suffering the same way from Dravett's. Sent him the article.

Sad that little kids have to suffer through bullshit like that and all the other diseases that inflict them, not to even mention other abuse. Kids should be immune from misery.

So what? While I feel for her and I realize it does appear to improve her life, that still does not make me change my mind that anybody who wants to get high on pot should be able to. Heck, Heroine was developed and used to treat dying soldiers...I am fine with that, but not for anyone to prescribe for themselves. It is the self-diagnosis and people out there that think marijuana legalization will solve many problems that I have an issue with. The government and yes, most drug companies being hamstrung by FDA regulations are a better target to focus the effort on. You think it is bad now, wait until ObummerCare is fully implemented...

I worked for a drug company. The biotech pharmaceutical that was in trials saved lives. I have NO doubt that the illogical and ridiculous FDA regulations have resulted in over a million deaths in the US as a result of the drug not being approved. A drug you could drink a liter of and get not much more than bad gas.

If pot has medical uses it MUST be handled thru doctors and pharmacies. What is set up now is a farse and was established for no other reason than to be a stepping stone for the legalization of pot for all.

Pot as a medicine, I agree with, but with how lax and easy it was to get a scrip for it prior to 64... that was a big joke. I could have walked into one of these quack dr offices and said "I had surgery in 2010, I feel pain still, can I get high?" No questions asked, they would have provided it. I'll bet 90% of those MMJ card holders in CO were not legitimate, it was just a BS excuse to get stoned, and sadly this detracts from the legitimacy of those who actually do have debilitating conditions that MJ has been proven to help.

Didn't really intend it as a pro/vs pot thread, but oh well.

Pot should be legalized across the board with the same age/driving restrictions as alcohol. Unless you want to ban alcohol too, but we saw how well that worked. I agree with Ronin on the medical thing being a farce. People have, do, and will smoke it regardless of the laws. Let's not pretend it's medical only anymore, and just admit people like to get high. The pretense is stupid.

But I also think one should be able to buy a cartload of heroin and belt-fed machine guns at the counter in Walmart too. And reap capital consequences if their actions injure anyone else. On their own time, affecting them only, I say legalize EVERYTHING, and allow Darwin to have his say in our gene pool again.

But I'm just a tinfoiled Libertarian.... never mind me. :-)

This. It will be brutal the first few years and lots of innocent and otherwise good people may die as a result but the long-term benefits of a gene pool cleansing will put us back in a commanding lead as a nation. Too many generations of creating laws to protect idiots from themselves has got us to the point were are now at. Pot is legal and I choose not to smoke it. Drinking bleach is legal and I also choose not to do that. I would guess that not having common sense or average intelligence would make such decisions difficult and I would want some large entity to care for me as an adult when I should be able to care for myself would be desirable. It's just too bad the majority of our nation now fits this mold and liberties and freedoms have to be sacrificed as a result.

And think, all that money wasted on the "drug war" that could go to treatment and addiction counseling instead.
