Had a VERY close call today, a semi-truck hauling a huge crane driving in the mountains, no more than 2mi from my work, had its engine caught on fire. He stayed on the road and the entire truck cab ended up being fully engulfed. If he had pulled off to the side of the road, it easily would have caught trees/grasses on fire just from the heat that was coming off of it.

I shudder to think of the devastation that was almost caused. I've never been really close to view a car-b-que; I imagine the cab of a semi going up in flames had to be pretty daunting.

Yea, it apparently was very serious fire. Thats the second vehicle fire on that 2mi stretch of the road in the past 2 years. Lots of steep mountains and vehicles just overheat and catch fire. We got lucky too, we have a VERY HIGH Fire Danger right now.

And there isn't a bypass they could have setup to reroute cars, so the road is basically blocked until they can clear the wreckage.

Found out a couple of my friends (married couple) are in the evac area (Tannenbaum Rd) for the Black Forest fire and based on where they say the fire started, areas they say burned (direction of travel), it looks bad for them.

Also, parts of Cathedral Pines burned. My daughter was married at Cathedral Pines Lodge less than 2 years ago. Good thing she's got plenty of pictures because she may never get to visit the place she was married in again.

They may be more than 1 Cathedral Pines & we might be referring to different ones. The one I'm referring to is JUST North of Black Forest Regional Park. Very gorgeous & expensive homes there.
