    Default Ordered some AMDs

Although I am not that knowledgeable about building, I decided to give it a try. Since the AMDs are so cheap(150). I also found 80% receivers for 40 bucks and new Chinese chrome lined barrels for $75.
I have watched a few videos and read several posts concerning this issue. I will post the results.
The only real question is who does "parkerizing"?
    Thanks!

I have built more than one AK and it just gets easier the more I do it. But when I built my AMD the kits were $75 with a barrel. Forget about parkerizing for right now. Heat treating and fitment are going to be your number one concerns.

I'm not sure the chinese barrel will fit. I believe the chinese is slightly larger than the AMD trunnions so you will have to take it to a lathe. The gas ports on the chicom barrels are in a different place so you will have to replace the piston on the AMD bolt carrier.

Instead of parkerizing I am probably going to use Alymahyde epoxy paint from Brownells.

Works pretty good on m14 synthetic stocks so I thought I would try it on the AKs

Also check out Prexis.com. There are lots of very good builders on that site.

Sorry for the delay, guys. Holidays, wife, ex-wives, inlaws, children, etc.
I ended up getting barrels from Jeff at Apex. I like Jeff. Good guy.
They work perfect save for the fact the gas tube is an inch too short. Easy fix, that!
Thank you for the tips bryjcom. Much appreciated!
I already built three of them and tested them yesterday. Who-hoo!
I did ok, it seems. I watched the AGI video and read and read and read.
I actually kinda proud of myself. It seems this is the way to go!
