    Default Pepsi machine rifle storage

So my kids getting to the age where I think I should start considering locking my rifles up instead of storing them in my cases. So for the past few months I have been looking here and there at safes, but just haven't had the coin to drop on one. Lucky for me at the shop there is an old Pepsi machine that needed a new compressor and my boss told me I could have it because he doesn't want to fix it. So today on my lunch break I gutted it, took some measurements, and it seems like it will fit all of my rifles just fine. The outside is a little weathered because it has been sitting outside for a couple years, which I like because who would guess it was being used as a safe? But I want to make the internals look pretty nice, and get the insulation out and maybe line it with some durarock to give it some sort of fire protection. I'm not to sure what to line it with though, maybe some outdoor carpet? Or some felt? I guess the question is, have any of you guys done this? Or know someone who has? Got any suggestions?

I think its a cool idea, as long as you realize that your trying to keep the guns away from the kids by hiding them inside a liquid candy machine. Might as well buy custom police tape that says, "Caution: Toys Inside."

Yeah he's almost 3, I'm just thinking ahead. Plus I'm pretty sure he won't be able to break into it. It's had a piece of angle iron welded around the door seem so it would be extremely difficult to get open.

As for the Pepsi safe, you can go several ways.

Use adhesives to secure carpet to interior.

Build shelving using wood materials and cover with your choice of carpet/felt.

That will not stop the B&E guys who see it and go Fuk Yeah, they're getting $2K on buyanythingnotnaileddown tv, grab it and lets go.

Nice idea but how many people will go, "So how come the pop machine doesn't work?"

I was planning on bolting it down. With the internals removed it probably only weighs 200-300lbs. Plus the durarock would add a little extra weight. I also considered buying 4 50lb bags of sand and laying them in the bottom where the compressor and condenser was. Plus I plan on putting in the garage, I figure it would go more unnoticed there

Just paint it green and call it the brussels sprout machine. Guaranteed safety.
