Default Microsoft caves on Xbox One requirements

For those gamers among us: http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update

Looks like they caved and are turning off the always-online bit and the trade-bit.

I'll admit, I wasn't really bothered by them. The online thing was potentially troubling (just in case of prolonged internet outage, but that happens very infrequently). As for the trade thing, I don't really have any IRL friends who are gamers who I'd trade with anyway. Plus, quite frankly I loathe the "used game market." Price it only $5 cheaper while screwing the person on the repurchase (I've resold _one_ game ever, bought it for $60, resold it 3 days later for $20). Plus, the developers don't see a dime from that second purchase, so I was thinking the trade restrictions would actually benefit them (well, trade-in, not necessarily trade-between-friends).

I still predict that the PS4 is going to kick the ever living snot out of the XBoxOne.

In what way? Not being confrontational, just curious.

You still need to buy a premium membership on Xbox in order to use netflix.

Xbox still has a camera and microphone that is always on, and Microsoft has admitted to being in bed with the NSA spying thing for years.

This sucks, I really liked the sharing plan they had proposed, share a game with up to 10 friends with up to 2 people playing it at a time, would have saved so much money by not buying the play-it-once-through single player games.

I think it wasn't "share with 10 friends," I think it was "Share with your family, which can have up to 10 people." I could be wrong :P

I'm actually still rooting for the XB1. I suppose my time as a tester for the 360 has biased me somewhat, but I prefer MS. Do remember, while MS has indeed likely cooperated with the NSA, Sony was the one which was hacked and had stored passwords in the clear.

They actually stated that it can be 10 "anybody's" in one of the press releases/conferences I'm rooting for them too, I'm a big fan of the current setup. PS getting hacked last year also took their online service down for weeks!
