As most of you know, limited numbers of AR/M4 rifles have gradually returned to the store racks, and most retailers have some .223 or 5.56 ammo some of the time. But just at the time we're beginning to see normalcy return to the market, I believe a renewed shortage of modern sporting rifles looms for Colorado due to the coming mag ban.
Now only ten days from the June 30 deadline, online retailers like Bud's have now discontinued shipping AR/M4 rifles to CO because they are factory packaged with 30 rd. mags. The online retailers don't want to be stuck with rifles in CO that have transfer delays beyond the deadline., and they won't open the seals on the boxes to remove the mags because then they can't be sold as unopened new stock.
On July 1, any remaining local store stock of guns with 15+ rd. mags will be shipped out to parent stores or back to the LGS distributors. Cabela's will ship all local AR/M4 stock to out of state stores. So, there will be no rifles for sale in CO until the manufacturers specially package rifles with 10 round mags. My theory is that the mag ban will create a renewed shortage of rifles.
I'd be interested in your thoughts, especially those of CO FFL dealers, about when we'll see sporting rifles back on the shelves.
Will a court injunction forestall this before the deadline?
