I use a soft with shoulder strap and expandable zipper, allowing it to hold more (or less) trays depending on my goals for the day.

I dislike the hard tackle boxes -- takes to long to swap out tackle specific to the species that I am targeting. 1 tray for plastics, 1 for jerk baits, 1 for cranks, 1 for jigs, lindy, etc....

Downside: soft sides eventually wear out after a few years.
