A girl and her rifle.

Calla has been saving for a rifle for some time now. Yesterday was her birthday so I used her savings ($48.52) and bought her a Savage Rascal. If you don't know about the Rascal, it's a single shot bolt action .22 that is youth sized and features several improvements over similar products currently available.

She also received a birchwood and casey .22lr resetting target today from her uncle so we took that out tonight and had a blast with it. We were shooting from a table with a cheap bipod from about 15 yards or so. The steel targets are about 2-3 inches diameter. She was able to plug the targets fairly consistently even with the fading orange sticker and light. Target can be seen in third pic down at the top of the picture...

These pictures are from yesterday and today. She is able to completely operate the rifle on her own and displays promising marksmanship and safe gun handling. I'm so glad that she's finally taking large strides into a hobby and sport that I love and enjoy. Spending time with my kids and doing what I/we love. It's a win/win.

She just turned 7. She's been practicing with a Daisy BB gun in the yard but she picked up the operation of this rifle really quickly. These pictures are literally her first few shots with it. It's really cool to see a young girl work on her mechanics, breathing and fundamentals all while loading/unloading, cycling the bolt and safety AND making lots of good hits.

Thanks again for the encouragement guys! She was totally hooked. We stayed out there for several hours just her plinking.
