Just a few random musings about the trial and result.
- I believe justice was served and the correct verdict was reached, under the law.
- While I don't believe this will happen, my wish is that wanna be thugs avoid strangers who are giving them a careful eye and even following them. Be careful who you pick on and confront - it may cost you your life.
- I want West and MOM as my defense attorneys, should I ever be in the same situation. Not perfect, but I believe more than competent and swam upstream for the entire trial
- The prosecution press conference, dominated by stupid Angela, was a farce. Her smarmy answers with the fake smile were completely disingenuous. She knew she didn't have a case and pushed Murder 2 anyway. Although BDLR (Bernie) I thought was overall a pretty good prosecutor, his indignant "justice was not served" comments in the press conference were disappointing. He should well know that few comments thanking the jury and not commenting on the specifics would serve him better than clinging to the proven false narrative with feigned indignity
- Trial attorney friends of mine told me this morning that the likelihood of a federal civil rights trial is non-existent for two reasons: the "wrong" party needs to be one involved with enforcement of the law (police, judge, attorney,....) - and a private citizen like GM doesn't meet that. The other reason is the FBI investigation that cleared GZ of racist behavior. One of these attorneys even mentioned a civil suit is unlikely, but I didn't hear his reasoning. It would seem to be a wrongful death civil trial may still be possible.
- At least GZ's handgun was a pretty cheap and easily replaced Kel-Tec PF-9. Although he can apply to have it returned, might be best to let Sanford PD disposition it or destroy it, and just get another elsewhere
- Although riots have not materialized, I think this trial and the continued pressure of the race baiters will move race relations backward. This trial may not be the "key moment" that sparks severe and long-lasting racial division, but it will be used as a catalyst in the future for other events that will indeed be the catalyst.
- Even though GZ was acquitted, the trial makes it clear that any lawful citizen who shoots another in claimed self defense may well be railroaded. regardless of the evidence or lack of evidence.
