    Default How many magazines?

So, I'm trying to decide how many magazines I should keep on hand for my .308. It is purely a range toy so technically I suppose one is probably actually plenty. The rifle isn't complete yet but so far I have two magazines for it. I am thinking four or five is probably plenty. With no guarantee of long term availability at this point I might even think of picking up around ten of them shortly. But do I really need that many magazines for a range toy?

    Thoughts?

You cant have too many, unless you are drowning.

Even for a dedicated range toy? I totally buy into that for my SHTF type weapons. Just not sure about a range toy. Thanks for the opinion.

For a range toy, I generally get 3... but that's just me.

Depends on how often you want to stop shooting and reload magazines.

I'm typically slow at the range. It saves me money that way.

This particular rifle will probably be used for a five shot group and then allowed to "cool down" before firing another five shot group.

I thought magazines are what you store ammunition in. If you have 300 rounds, you need 10, 30 round magazines. Math isn't my strong suit, but that formula normally works. At some point, in some calibers, the ammo that I haven't bought magazines for will have to sit in ammo cans, till I can afford more magazines

Don't we know that's bad for the springs already.

My thoughts are, they are easy to get ahold now. They may not be available in the future, or very expensive. So load up!

I usually try to get 6 for each weapon. Can't justify why I use that number, I've just always tried to go with 6.

Like many weapon related purchases; I normally set a price point for an item and keep my eye open for them. As items become available, at or below that price point, and when I have funds available, I buy. It is sort of like buying stocks or any other commodity.

Glock 22, 15 round mags get bought when I find them at $12 or less.
PMAGS, 30 rounds, any color get bought when I find them below $10

Some prices fluctuate more than others, like ammunition, so I am constantly reassessing the price point.

I am thankful for living in a market economy
