Whittington Center Meet/Shoot/Swap

I think that a site wide grouping should meet somewhere like the Whittington, or up north and have a shoot/swap type deal. It would be a lot of fun. We could all meet one another, do some shootin, and dealing. I just mentioned the Whittington because it would be a lot of fun, and everyone could have a chance to shoot 1000 yards, the pistol & rifle silhouette, and some clays. Anyway, just meet up somewhere not in Comirado... < I know it's not that bad yet, but if the Comifornians keep moving here, it will be....

Never been, but I've heard they have cabin rentals and camping. I would be pretty interested if so just because it's kind of a drive for me.

Well as one that has been many times and run Falfest I can put out a couple of things. You need to check the schedule to see what is going on. I have ph #'s of the directors and staff so if you pick a date(s) I can check to see what ranges are being reserved. I had a car show up one year that we had the 1000 yard range reserved and they almost tried to start a fight because they had driven all the way from KS. I told them that we would be done by 3pm and they could have it after.

That said the CGB ranges are normally open and I think a few of us have enough steel and stands and other things and ideas that as long as one of them is not reserved and we set up early a small 3-gun course is doable. To run an event you need NRA insurance and it is only available for a club or group and runs about $900 so this would mean everyone would have to pay daily rates or be a member.

But if a group of individuals shows up and can commandeer a range then all would be good. The HP range is not going to be taken over since there will be people wanting to shoot on it and people need to work together. I used to let the local Palma boys have the range early for an hour or so because they seem to show up every day at dawn to shoot. 1000 yards is doable but you need teams and things setup right to make it go fast. Most days shooting over 600 yards after 11am is not possible (for most) because of the wind.

Many options from Hotel like on down. I drag my camper down and it always became the night time potluck, drinking, BS place because there is one RV spot that has a bunch of room.

I will not lead this but will support it and have some insight on how the place works.

Just some thoughts.

i did an appleseed down there earlier this year--it's a great facility. they had a campfire ban at the time (no surprise). we were at the coors range for the appleseed, but i drove around and checked out all the other ranges. still don't understand the no .223, though

I had asked someone on the Whittington staff about this and was told the .223 is too destructive on their steel targets. Their range so we have to comply with their rules.
