Tag... Only 3 hours away from south denver. How's New Mexico gun law?
What gun laws?
Open Carry legal here.
Concealed Permits required. Although according to the law, it is Illegal to carry a loaded concealed weapon without a permit. Therefore, if you had an unloaded handgun in one pocket and a mag in another and no permit, you are technically within the legal limits of the law.
No mag bans. "Assault Rifle" (Defeated every time they try and bring it up. The only real support for such nonsense comes out of Santa Fe. (Imagine Boulder with smellier hippies and far more money) The rest of the state will never allow it though. (although the state often votes dem, Albuquerque and Santa Fe, the economy is largely driven by the rural communities who are mostly conservative. Hell, we have a female, hispanic, Republican Gov right now.)
Gun Shops are slightly lacking. Here in the northwest corner, there is a storefront ffl at Whittington, one small shop in Clayton, and one really small shop in Cimarron. There are a handful of folks I know that have FFLs and run small operations out of their homes. (to Whittingtons credit, through all the craziness of the last few months, they have had a full selection of pistols that stayed at normal prices. Mid January they had almost every Glock model on their shelves, and at normal prices)
There are some good smiths around these parts. I won't play favorites, although we have a great barrel maker in Raton. Elysium Arms (formerly K&P and Clerke Barrels) are making some fine 10-22 tubes. They were working on a two piece cast AR lower, but I've heard they ran into a few snags with the Alphabet people. Its a shame, I really wanted a rifle with Raton, NM stamped on it.
Local Sheriff here is pro 2nd. I've known him to sign off on Form 4's with no hassle.
Summary, New Mexico Rocks.
(not that you guys don't rock, just your current situation means you rock a little less. which does make it look like we rock a little more. Sorry, just the way it is.)![]()
And, there IS a reciprocal CCW agreement between CO and NM. The storefront shop at the NRA Whittington Center had a pretty good stock of various calibers just a few weeks ago. Didn't check the prices but the ammo was available for immediate purchase. Be interesting to see if they also stock any magazines of "high capacity" nature and if so, would they consider selling to CO residents.
If anyone does make it down to Whittington for ANY reason, the visit to their museum should definitely be on their "to do" list along with checking out their gift shop which has some very decent prices on some stuff...
I know they do interstate transfers with the Big R in Trinidad.
They also usually have spare factory mags for the firearms they carry. I wouldn't suggest anyone disobey any laws of the states of this nation. However, no one has ever asked for my ID when purchasing mags with cash.
You guys have any idea on a date?
Does NM still have a ban in carry in any place that serves alcohol?
O2
YOU are the first responder. Police, fire and medical are SECOND responders.
When seconds count, the police are mere minutes away...
Gun registration is gun confiscation in slow motion.

"Any idea what the total transfer cost would be for the two places to handle them?"
I want to say its 15% total and the shops were splitting it. Been a while and of course no telling what the markup with your new background system.

If the establishment makes more than 50% of its sales from alcohol then its a no-no. Less than 50 you're good to go. (also no go on any establishment that post no ccw) I can't think of anyplace in this part of the state with one of those signs though. At least no place I go to.
