It only takes 1 person to get the ball rolling. With a STRONG anti-gun Lib controlled Congress and another in the White House, getting this passed is not as far fetched as it would have sounded even 1 year ago.

As I recall my history, they said something very similar about the gun ban in Nazi Germany (Oh Honey, that Adolf is such a nice man who has our best interests at heart). If we fail to "get all worked up" and voice our descent, this has a better chance of getting passed.

Did you ever notice that there's a hugely disproportonate number of clowns from Illinois that bring these things up?

    We have dissent.

    Congress has demonstrated a descent.

    OhIjustcrackmeupsometimes.

Sadly, however, I think both are true. I agree, silence is not an option no matter how 'out there' a bill is. If every time they step over the line they get ten thousand face slaps (there are other words to describe said slap) they will think better of it next time.

News stories like this, even the pound of salt ones, don't really bother me.

They can pass all the laws they want. I have my firearms in my hands and nothing will change that.

    And to that end...

I just spoke to a very nice guy in Congressman Rush' office. I explained that
    1) I completely understand the need to get guns out of the hands of criminals. It is a real problem demanding effective solutions.
    2) This bill is not an effective way to do that. It will not affect a criminal's ability to obtain a firearm in any way - they already get their firearms illegally. Making it more illegal will have no effect. They will still get their TEC-9s from Mexico or elsewhere.
    3) The real solution is to increase the penalties astronomically for committing a crime with a firearm, and to work hard to rehabilitate the criminals where possible (I know, unlikely, but I threw a bone, because in a few cases this does work, especially in the case of religious work believe it or not).

He asked me, making it clear it was his own question, if I was a member of the NRA. I said yes, but that I was speaking not on behalf of the NRA but on my own behalf. He asked if the NRA had supported any legislation that would curb gun violence (he asked this in a very non-confrontational way, he was not picking a fight, and it was an honest question).

I said I was glad he asked. Yes, the NRA has proposed and supported increasing criminal penalties for felonies committed with a firearm, and yes, the NRA has supported stiff penalties for being a 'straw buyer', purchasing a firearm for someone who could not obtain one legally.

He did not know this. He thanked me for my comments, and I have every reason to believe he was taking notes.

    Dissent registered.

Be nice, be polite, treat the man like a citizen, listen and acknowledge the problem is real but that this is not the solution, it will only impact LAW ABIDING CITIZENS and not criminals.

Think of the children. Do you really want a world where the children have to pay $120 for a used glock magazine?

And that is precisely why I'm getting my kids their semi-auto handguns with lots of extra mags now (4 years still before my son can legally own one, but one day it'll be his).
