The team actually has about 25 members on it, made up of Civilian employees(me) Deputies and Larkspur firefighters.

What training did you have to go through?

First thing you do is a Pack Test, 3 mile hike in just over 45 minutes with a 50 pound pack, this qualifies you for the classroom, we took about 40 hours of training both classroom and field before we were given our red cards, then supplemented that with another 40 hours of more training that isn't required to get started but is part of the upgrade from FFTII to FFTI, some of things we learned to do..

Spinning weather
Weather watching
Shelter and Shelter Deployment
Building Handline
Fire Behavior
Advanced Fire Behavior
Burnouts operations
Pumps and hose lays
small motor maintenance(saws and Pumps)
Type 6 Brush truck operations

A few more, a lot of these are not required to make FFTII but the experienced firefighters felt it would be good for us to know over and above the basic training and it will work for us on further advancement, everything you do in Wildland Firefighting is an upgrade to your status so its always important to keep your task book current, even your experience or the fires you work on, aerial operations engine operations everything.
